There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Mothers Day Celebration
Five Islands School warmly welcomed all mothers and mother figures for a special Mother’s Day celebration. Our mums enjoyed a delicious morning tea and cherished quality time with their children. We are truly grateful for the love and care that mothers and mother figures provide, nurturing the students of Five Islands School each and every day.
ANZAC Day Commemoration
Five Islands School recently commemorated ANZAC Day with a special ceremony, welcoming members of the Newcastle RAAF to join the occasion. Students and staff gathered for an assembly where RAAF representatives spoke about the significance of ANZAC Day. The ceremony included a minute of silence to honour those who have served. Afterwards, students, assisted by RAAF staff, placed handmade poppies in the school’s front garden as a gesture of remembrance. The day concluded with a BBQ lunch for everyone to share. We extend our sincere thanks to the RAAF for their support, helping to make the day both meaningful and memorable for our school community.
Easter Hat Parade and Crazy Hair Day
Five Islands School joyfully celebrated Easter with an exciting Easter Hat Parade and Crazy Hair Day. Students showcased their creative hats and hairstyles with confidence as they paraded around the Bike Deck to their favourite songs, they even had a visit from the Easter Bunny! The festivities continued with a delicious cake stall and raffle, warmly organised by our dedicated P&C, much to the delight of families and the school community.
School Disco
To celebrate the end of Term 2, students enjoyed a fun-filled disco on the deck, marking their achievements from Semester 1. With music pumping, bubbles floating through the air, and colourful lights, the atmosphere was full of energy and excitement. Students danced enthusiastically while waving streamers, adding to the festive vibe. A sausage sizzle topped off the afternoon, making it a memorable way to recognise everyone’s hard work and celebrate together as a school community.
Hatching Chicks
Lyrebird Class has been excitedly hosting the hatching chicks as part of a hands-on learning experience. Students have been able to watch the chicks hatch, observe their growth, and gently hold them as they become more confident. This experience has taught students about life cycles, responsibility, and the importance of caring for living things. It has also sparked curiosity and wonder, helping students connect classroom learning with the real world in a fun and memorable way.
NAIDOC Assembly
Five Islands School celebrated NAIDOC Week with a special visit from a local school Aboriginal dance group. The performers shared powerful traditional dances that highlighted the richness and strength of First Nations culture. Students watched with interest and were invited to get involved by using clapping sticks to keep the rhythm, creating an inclusive and engaging experience. The event was a meaningful way to honour Aboriginal culture and foster understanding and respect within the school community.
"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Five Islands School
