Sporting programs at Five Islands School are an important element of our students’ overall wellbeing, fine and gross motor skills, mental and physical development. We place a high priority on physical activity in both our individual class programs and during weekly sessions.
Beginning in 2022, students at Five Islands have had the opportunity to engage in our new ‘Sporting Skills’ program once a fortnight with a specialised sports instructor. These lessons allow us to run modified sports activities focused on meeting the individual needs and interests of our students. The sports program consists of students learning a range of key skills, team work and inclusion for a wide range of sports including; Golf, T-Ball, Volleyball, Soccer, Bocce, Gymnastics and many more. The success of this program was immeasurable and has been continued in 2023. Student representatives from Five Islands School attended a Multisport Day and Boccia Day in Newcastle where they experienced a variety of sports, demonstrating their skills while socialising with students from other schools.
Staff encourage students to practice these skills in the playground through informal, structured and social games. Students also have access to bikes, trampolines, swings, climbing equipment and selected sporting equipment for individual and group activities.
