Physical activity programs are key to the development of all students fine and gross motor skills, as well as enhancing their mental and physical health. Our students are exposed to a wide range of activities, some are included in the class programs and others in weekly sessions with specialised coaches. Students are also supported to develop these skills in the playground through structured games modelled by staff, along with bikes, trampolines and sporting equipment being readily available. The Sporting Schools program funding allowed us to run a modified gymnastics and sporting skills program and purchase new equipment. We used this equipment to hold our first whole school Active Kids Carnival in Term 4, with all students participating in a range of sports and games. In 2019 we intend to hold another Active Kids Carnival and invite our Support Unit neighbours. Our students participated in the Premiers Sporting Challenge, all achieving gold awards. A number of students were also selected to represent the school at the annual sports carnival hosted by Hunter River Community School which was a great success.
